Communication

Template

This template can be used by yourself or a trusted person who you may ask to look after your communication.

In this example, we have used Sally as the person who has been diagnosed and Tom as her Communications Person.

Dear Family or Friend,

This is Tom, a friend of Sally's.

Sally has asked me to be the main point of contact for updates and communication for the time being.

Sally has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour. At this stage, we don't have many answers and are still gathering information, but I will keep a small group of family and friends updated as we learn more.

As you can imagine, this news has come as a big shock. Right now, Sally needs time, space and support to process what is happening and focus on the next steps.

If Sally does reach out to you, please know that there is no perfect thing to say. Simply being present, listening and letting Sally know you care can make a world of difference. Often, our instinct is to try to find solutions or say something to make things better, but what matters most is feeling supported and not alone.

If you have questions, I may not be able to answer them immediately, but please feel free to send them through and I'll do my best to respond when I can.

Thank you for your understanding, kindness and support during this difficult time.

(Optional extras)

If you would like to help, practical support can be incredibly valuable. If you can assist with meals, transport, childcare, household tasks, appointments or other day-to-day support, please reply and let me know what you may be able to help with and your general availability.

Thank you again for keeping Sally in your thoughts.

Warm regards,

Tom
