Run for Mum: Seanne’s Journey Continues

Seanne Inkpen never imagined she would become a marathon runner.

For most of her life, running was something she actively avoided. She was the person looking for any excuse to skip cardio, the one cheering from the sidelines rather than joining in.  But after losing her mum, Liz, to brain cancer in 2023, running became something much more meaningful.

The year after Liz’s passing was filled with difficult firsts. The first Christmas without her. The first Mother’s Day. The first anniversary of losing her to brain cancer. In the middle of grief, Seanne laced up her running shoes for the first time.

What started as a way to cope became a powerful reminder of resilience, strength, and the ability to keep moving forward, even when life feels impossible.

“Through running, you show yourself that you can get through hard things,” Seanne said.  “Through running, I am reminded of my Mum, who lived every day with gratitude, positivity, and light, even through her diagnosis.”

In 2026, Seanne took on her biggest challenge yet, committing to run not one, but two marathons in memory of her mum and in support of the brain cancer community.

In April, Seanne proudly completed the 2026 TCS London Marathon, dedicating every kilometre to Liz and the thousands of people affected by brain cancer.

Now, her journey continues as she prepares for the ASICS Sydney Marathon in August, which will take place on her birthday.

“Training for Sydney is going well, although I must admit it has come around very quickly and I’ve been very unorganised,” Seanne joked.

“I am hoping to beat my time from London but above all to have fun and finish. I have heard there are a lot of hills along this course which I have been keeping out of my mind!”

While the physical challenge is enormous, Seanne’s motivation comes from somewhere much deeper.

“The Peace of Mind Foundation were instrumental in supporting my family through the most tumultuous and devastating periods of our lives,” Seanne said.

“The work they do changes the lives of so many people impacted by brain cancer, and I am honoured to be supporting them as my chosen charity.”

Through her fundraising, Seanne hopes to raise awareness, support families facing brain cancer, and honour the strength her mum showed throughout her journey.

“I can do 42.2kms because my Mum, and everyone that is currently battling this horrific disease, show us what ‘tough’ really is.”

As Seanne prepares to take on Sydney, she carries Liz’s memory with every step, proving that even through grief, there can be purpose, connection, and hope.
